“I paint self-portraits and scenes of social events, indoor and outdoor spaces- mostly from my imagination. I enjoy quirky, inaccurate perspectives and playing with light and shadow. I use a thick application of acrylic paint on handmade timber boards, I pile layer after layer of acrylic paint until I reach a three-dimensional result and am satisfied with the colours. My self-portraits portray themes of personal idealization, I often paint self-portraits with two versions of ‘me’ depicted in the painting – the version of me that I see myself as, and the more fashionable, thinner, more attractive, idealized me. My social gathering scenes unfold tea parties, house parties, picnics, greenhouses. I often paint checkered tiles on the floors and overexaggerated shadows, casting across the compositions. Painting from my imagination creates an endless scope of ideas about this little world I have created.”
